I spent a full day out at Kundabung slabbing various logs to try to yield some usable timber.
The slabs were cut using my Stihl MS461 chainsaw with a 30″ bar and a mini Alaskan Mill attachment.
I like to cut all my slabs at about 60mm thick, so by the time they have all dried, warped, and been surfaced I should come out with 50mm finished slabs.
I stack all of the useful slabs up on top of each other with stickers (spacers) between them to allow for adequate airflow to assist in the drying process.
I then paint the ends with a wax-type paint to slow down the drying process which will greatly reduce the amount of warpage and checking (little cracks) the slabs generally develop as they dry.
